Tinnitis
Tinnitis and Hearing Loss
Tinnitis can be perceived as originating in one or both ears or in the head. It
is usually described as a ringing noise, but in some patients it takes the form
of a buzzing, hissing, humming, or whistling sound, or as ticking, clicking,
roaring, etc. and it can have many varying causes, such as injury, ear wax, a
side-effect of medication, exposure to loud noise, and more.
Tinnitis can signal the onset of hearing loss, and anyone experiencing tinnitis
should check immediately into the possible cause, and have his/her hearing
checked regularly.
In the case of hearing aid use, tinnitis tends to improve significantly once a
correctly-prescribed hearing aid is used regularly. It appears that the extra
stimulation of outside noise lessens the wearer’s perception of noise
experienced from the inside. For this reason, a hearing device can lessen the
stress of a tinnitis sufferer, and create a more positive hearing experience.
Tinnitis remains largely a mystery to physicians and the scientific world, but there are some positive steps that can be taken to eliminate or lessen stress associated with this condition. It’s important to be in touch with Doctors and Hearing Specialists who can help to investigate the cause of the sound and lend support in correcting it as soon as possible.
